I am a pilgrim - living and creating in Barcelona.
My name is Gal Hart and I would like to introduce myself. I am an architect, a mosaic artist, a partner, and a father who combines those skills in different creative processes. As a long-distance hiker with thousands of kilometers, places, and people in my feet, I had gained vast knowledge and experience within and between those journeys - ranging from communication, architecture, planning, and designing, but above all - inspiration.
During my first visit to Spain, in 2002, walking the Camino the Santiago, was my first exposer to Modernist architecture across Spain and especially in Barcelona. While studying and practicing architecture, I was intrigued by working with materials - especially with clay and ceramics. I aim to apply the contemporary approach to traditional techniques and motives.
Living in Barcelona, I looked for opportunities to escalate my knowledge in techniques and materials. In parallel to a master's degree in restoration and rehabilitation, I managed to open a door of opportunity to the amazing place called Mosaics Marti, located in Manresa, Catalunya. The studio is a family business since 1913 and specializes in the arts and crafts of producing traditional cement tiles.
In my studio, located in the pictorial neighborhood of Vila de Gracia, just below the magnificent Park Guell, I break tiles to create images piece by piece. In many cases, those images find themselves embedded in a costume-adjusted element. This combination usually leads to a new complete creation.
